Fiesta Island is San Diego’s largest leash-free gathering spot and now there are ruffs all around San Diego that the city is planning to develop it. Is this a concern for your pup, absolutely? The city is currently working on a plan to “develop” the current leash-free area located on the south side of the island. The goal is to divide it up into three sections and put fencing, roads and parking lots up. This would mean that the large area that was once free grounds for dogs to run leash-free, hike and play with their two-legged and four legged friends could be in jeopardy.
If the city cannot offer a large recreation spot for our furry friends to run free then where are they suppose to go. Currently there are 700,000 dogs calling San Diego home and they need options. We are taxpayers and dog lovers and should have the opportunity to have a recreation area such as Fiesta Island. A place to hang out at and not worry about our dogs not having adequate space to play. The city should use the money on other things and leave Fiesta Island alone…
