Hot spots can be a very uncomfortable and painful thing for our dogs. Though you could certainly see a vet, some instances can be taken care of at home.
Gently clip the hair away from the affected area. These areas are extremely sensitive and hot. So, be patient and careful. Spray the are copiously with cooled green tea, followed by Calendula and Hypericum tea, using 1/2 teaspoon of each in 1 pint of boiled water. Then strain and cool. Repeat the green tea. Calendula ointment, Aloe vera, or Egg white can then be applied topically.
Comfrey can also be used, as it is an incredible healer for topical use on the skin. It has anti-inflammatory and astringent properties. When used to heal hot spots it is best used in a salve form.
