Travels with Charlie

Charlie Dog is one lucky pup, besides having one of if not the best job any dog could want, working at The Honest Kitchen, his two legged people love road trips- especially the camping type.  Each road trip, some new innovative trick is discovered to make the journey that much more fun, and easy, so we thought we’d share our experiences.  We would love to hear from you if you too have some fun traveling stories with your fur friends.

Charlie Dog has learned some Spanish on his numerous camping trips to our favorite Mexico beaches.  He has accompanied us to a wedding at Lake Tahoe.  He went for a chilling swim in Glacier National Park, and nearly every river along the way from San Diego to Montana and back.  And who says Dalmatians don’t like water.  It was very fun to watch him get his first taste of a fresh water swim.  Having grown up with salty ocean water, waves, tides, and seaweed, fresh water was a real treat.  Charlie Dog is also a bit of a ‘desert rat’, though this is seasonal, early spring and late fall.  It is far too chilly in the winter (Dog jacket a must, and occasionally Doggles for the wind), and way too hot in the summer for dog and human alike.  Other favorites in Charlie’s travel journal, music festivals, he has to break out his tie-dye collar for these events, and can be found on the dance floor most of the night.

Coming soon to a radio station near you…. we wish!

One of our friends in Hawaii just passed on this fantastic rap that one of their clients wrote about our food. We’re totally flattered and are plotting how we can make this into a music video (of course, we’d want to shoot on location in Hawaii!) starring Charley and having the HK pups as back up barkers. Big Thanks to Charley and his Momma!

Charley’s Rap Song
I have no worries and I have no care
About this new dog food scare
My Mom makes my food for me
It’s as tasty as it can be
She mixes it up in a great big bowl
Honest Kitchen is food for the soul
Then she adds some lean ground beef
Makes me strong like an Indian Chief
Every day I get fresh chicken
That to me is just paw licking
I eat it all up and she gives me hugs
Then when she’s not looking I eat bugs

Rabies Challenge Fund $20,000 Matching Pledge

Two anonymous donors have generously pledged to match all donations of $100 or more to The Rabies Challenge Fund up to $20,000 from May 1st through November 1st.  The Fund is more than halfway towards reaching its immediate goal of $177,000 to cover the two concurrent challenge studies’ first year expenses so the research can begin.

The donors state that, “We are unabashed dog lovers and will do anything in our power to promote their health, longevity and overall well-being. That is the reason we have established a $20,000 matching gift program for the Rabies Challenge Fund. If you believe, as we do and as W. Jean Dodds, DVM, has stated, that “Rabies is the vaccine most associated with adverse reactions because it’s so potent”, then please support this initiative, particularly now so that your $100.00 or more donation will be doubled.”

The Rabies Challenge Fund Charitable Trust is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exemption organization founded by pet vaccine disclosure advocate Kris L. Christine of Maine in 2005 to finance 5 and 7 year long-term duration of immunity challenge studies on the canine rabies vaccine.  Two world-renowned giants of veterinary vaccine research — Dr. W. Jean Dodds of Hemopet and Co-Trustee of The Rabies Challenge Fund and Dr. Ronald Schultz of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine — have volunteered their time to ensure this important research is conducted in the United States.  The vaccine studies will be performed by Dr. Schultz at the University of Wisconsin according to USDA vaccine licensing requirements.
More information on The Rabies Challenge Fund and the concurrent 5 and 7 year challenge studies it will finance can be found at the fund’s website designed by volunteer Andrea Brin at:  www.RabiesChallengeFund.org.

Safety First

We’d like to let you know what we’re doing to ensure our products are safe. While we have no reason whatsoever to believe that there is any risk of contamination to the products we produce, we have decided to add melamine screening to the list of QC tests that are already conducted on every ingredient we purchase, to provide complete assurance of our products’ safety.

Effective immediately, all vendors who supply ingredients to our company are required to screen for Melamine as part of their routine testing. In addition, The Honest Kitchen itself will test finished products from every single batch produced, to prove that it is free of contamination. We now have melamine-free certificates on file for each of our diets.

These new measures are being implemented autonomously, and independently of any government regulatory agency.

In addition to this new safety measure, The Honest Kitchen is negotiating with several new suppliers of Certified Organic fruits and vegetables and wild-crafted herbal ingredients for use in its products. This is part of our ongoing commitment to continually upgrade to organic, where possible.

Currently, we’re experiencing a very large surge in demand for our products and inquiries from many new customers who are seeking out new, trustworthy options for their animal companions. We’re delighted to welcome so many new customers and their guardians to our Honest Kitchen family.
To our many fiercely loyal customers who have been buying our products since day one - We appreciate your business and promise to continue providing excellent customer service and beautiful products, just as always.
