Operation Doggy Drop

Due to the devastating hurricanes in South, an alarming amount of people and pets were displaced and left without homes. While there was some government help provided to assist with the displaced pets, most of the assistance provided was due to generous donations from everyday people like you and me. The loyal pet owners or just plain pet lovers in Hollywood have also been very generous and this Friday they’re having a party (err. fundraiser) to help pets without parents. The event starts at 7pm and is at the House of Blues.

Marc Rosen, a producer at Heyday Films, and also a foster dad to displaced pups is sponsoring the fundraiser. Here are his top reasons as to why celebrities love animals so much (from the la times):

1. They make the best fashion accessories. 2. They won’t sell photos of you to the paparazzi. (Or release tapes of you on YouTube!) 3. Poo disposal is humbling for anyone. 4. They love you even when the critics don’t. 5. You can kiss them all you want (within reason) without it making the magazines. 6. They won’t sue if you embarrass them on reality shows. 7. When you come home at the end of the day, whether that is a hotel room or a mansion or a trailer, they make it feel like home.

Where in the world is Harry?

Our office cat hasn’t been coming to work for the last month or so and frankly I’m starting to doubt his commitment to being our spokeskitty. Kidding! I actually wanted to introduce you all to him because he’s one of the lesser known executives here at the Honest Kitchen.

When he isn’t hanging out on Laurette’s desk, you can often find him looking at the dogs from a high, safe place(and telepathically messaging the dogs that their attempts to catch him are futile).Oh, and if you couldn’t already tell by his coloring, he’s closely related to Charlie Dog. Harry

Man finds dog. Man loses dog. Man finds dog again.

I’m sure this might be old news by now, but I can’t get over Bliss Green’s story of finding his dog after it had been gone for three weeks. Bliss adopted Melody eleven year ago from a shelter to try to help him against his battle with depression. Recently, while Bliss was traveling in Nebraska his car, with Melody in it, was stolen. Everyday for three weeks, Bliss contacted shelters across the country looking for his dog that has brightened his everyday. Some very kind people in Wyoming found his pup and took care of her until investigators were able to track down Mr. Green.

The story itself is an inspiring testament to the devotion that people have to their dogs and of the therapeutic benefits of sharing your life with a pet. And not to be forgotten is the family that opened their home to Melody. My heart is warmed. Is yours?

Welcome to the Honest Kitchen Blog

We’re very excited here at the Honest Kitchen to begin our odyssey into the blog world. This is a place where we want to tell our story, educate you, and have you do the same with us. We are fortunate to have such interesting and diverse customers that we get to talk to everyday on the phone. We’ve traded recipes, seen pictures of your pooches and kitties, and now we hope to get more people in on the conversation!

I’m happy to report that there’s been a lot going on here at the Honest Kitchen. Just last week Cami and Laurette attended the Academy of Veterinary Homeopath’s annual conference in beautiful Monterey, CA. They were surprised to find that a food that normally takes some explaining needed little introduction to this audience. We’ve been working hard to get together the holistic directory, so if you have a fondness for a particular homeopathic veterinarian please pass their information along to us.

Lucy and Charlie will be attending the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association’s conference this weekend in Scottsdale, AZ. They’ll be working on getting the word out about our food and learning all sorts of new things on healing through bodywork. In their off time it is guaranteed they will be exploring the culinary delights that Scottsdale has to offer. This is just further proof that people who feed their dogs well will also eat well!

Also this weekend, I’ll be in San Francisco, CA for the annual Green Festival promoting our foods and learning more about becoming a greener business. The event is open to the public and tickets are very reasonable. For information check out: http://www.greenfestivals.org/content/view/7/29/. I will be in booth 924, so stop by and say hello! In my down time you can find me eating…. a lot.
