Charlie and the rest of the Honest Kitchen crew would like to wish you a happy and safe holidays.
Happy Holidays!!!
Can’t get enough of Keen!!!
Since the arrival of Keen dogs have been going crazy over our new diet. Carla Haley and her ACD Pack: Takoda, Monty and Piper can’t get enough of it.
“They are absolutely in HEAVEN and go totally nuts when I pick up the bowls for feeding time. Piper (our talkative Husky/ACD mix) feels she has to hurry me along by whining at the stairs where they sit during the preparation. This is something they have never previously done when I was feeding them the plain kibble. Takoda, our red ACD (the picky one of the bunch) would before look in his bowl and then look up at me like “Again Mom?” But now he will go through his repertoire of tricks to get me to set the bowl down. I can’t fix their new food fast enough! They barely can sit still and wait patiently.Elapsed time to completion: approx 60 sec!”
Official THK Hugger!!!
Sometimes all you need is a hug to get you through your day. Well at the Honest Kitchen we have official hugger Makai…and he gives great hugs!

Golden Retriever Rescue Pups Thriving on “Force”

Dear Honest Kitchen,
My name is Sandie and I am a volunteer with Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue. www.goldenrescuenc.org
You recently sent our organization some samples to give out in our goodie bags at our annual rescue reunion, where over 100 Rescued Golden Retrievers attended. We truly hope some of those attendees start using your food as we believe in your product and think that feeding our pets high quality food is the one of the best thing we, as dog owners, can do for them.
I wanted to send you a couple of pictures of two puppies that our rescue group recently saved. These pups were dropped off at a shelter at 5 weeks old and were due to be put to sleep, since they were left without their mother at such an early age. Our rescue group jumped into action and brought these sweet babies into our program. I personally fostered 3 of the pups and fed them honest kitchen from day 1. I believe that your food has helped them become the strong, healthy, active pups they are today at 8 weeks. They are truly thriving as a result of this great organization that I volunteer with, the love of their fosters and the delicious, high quality, nourishing food that they LOVE to eat.
Thank you honest kitchen!
Sandie C.

Steven responds to Tracy Hotchner’s “HSUS Donation Uproar”

The fires from Tracy Hotchner’s blog post on The Honest Kitchen’s donation to the HSUS last year continue to smolder.
Steven, an Honest Kitchen blog reader, left the following comment on Tracie’s post…
“This is one of those topics where, in order to have a credible argument/opinion on the issue, one must do a little homework; “drive-by posters”, keep on driving….
While I agree that the Humane Society of the United States (By the way, you should always define acronyms on first use.) has done a lot to help the welfare of animals, it, like any other large organization is not without its faults, and no amount of general nonconstructive criticism will not change this; only actions such as education of the public, letter-writing, internal member actions, etc. can effect organization policy…
To the layperson, HSUS is usually thought of in a solely positive light, but as a dog owner I have come to have some strongly-felt criticism towards the organization…
While acknowledging their overall historical contributions to animal welfare in the US, I was only recently made aware of their stance that all fighting dogs confiscated by law enforcement should undergo mandatory euthanization. The landmark decision of the federal prosecutor in the Michael Vick case to allow the temperament testing and screening of the animals resulted in the exposure of the ignorance of the HSUS on this matter: Only one dog had to be destroyed as too far mentally damaged to be rehabilitated. The remaining 48 or so dogs that survived have all been rehabilitated and most, if not all of them have been adopted into loving permanent or foster homes. These dogs are ambassadors of the breed and highlight the ignorance of the HSUS because, as an organization that claims to be knowledgeable about animals, they really should have known (and acknowledged) that the APBT (American Pit Bull Terrier) is as resilient mentally as they are physically and have an excellent chance of recovery and rehabilitation despite the horrendous abuses they endure.
HSUS is large and powerful enough to have taken a stance supporting rehabilitation screening for former fighting dogs a long time ago and could have saved countless dogs’ lives. Some speculate that lack of this action is due to their policies being influenced by the “foo-foo show dog crowd” who do not want “their organization” to be seen as helping “those killer dogs”.

Oh Willow…
Willow, the “Queen Bee” of the office dogs, and our biggest diva, demonstrated -yet again- her habit of making us question her brain matter! Lucy (her 2 legged mother), accompanied by Willow, was meeting with Lucas in his office for quite a while earlier this week. As the meeting dragged on Willow got uncomfortable and decided on a nap. One problem though!! In Lucas’ office the only dog bed available is MINI size (used by his Mini Schnauzer). This of course didn’t stop Willow from getting comfortable (or attempting to at least).

I must say, ONLY WILLOW would attempt to squeeze her 90lb hiney into a dog bed made for k-9s a tenth her size!! But for all her faults she knows how to make it work! This is why Willski is my favorite. Only she would do this… Gotta love her….

PS: The bed later busted under the intense pressure and was thrown away…to Willows chagrin
Minnie & The Force

We received a cool “Honest Kitchen” success story from one of our awesome and adorable customers, Minnie. She sent us an email today telling us how thrilled she is to be eating Force! It appears the Force is definitely with Minnie! Check it out…
Hi,
My name is Minnie and I am 8 1/2 years old. My mom started feeding me force 6months ago and I am delighted. I have always had a sensitive stomach, ear infections and the constant shedding was unbearable. Now look at me…I feel great…!!
No more ear infections, no more getting sick to my stomach and just look at my coat and how I shine! No more shedding…Woo Hoo! I really wanted to be on your new box but I didn’t make the final cut. No problem, I just asked my mom to put me on the Force box.
So here I am, healthy and happy Minnie. The Force is with me. Thanks to The Honest Kitchen for making me feel really good!
Thanks Minnie!!
Peke-a-poos on Force!

We always love to hear from our customers and it’s wonderful to know we can change the lives of little furballs everywhere just by making a high quality product they can trust! I got an email from Angela who wanted to say thanks on behalf of her Peke-a-poos, who are Force pups!!
Hello again The Honest Kitchen,
I just wanted to follow up on my prior email and let you know how absolutely appreciative my husband and I are of your wonderful product! Since starting our two Peke-a-poos on Force, we have seen a marked improvement in their energy and overall health. Both are even spunkier than before if you can imagine that from two excited little dogs! Gracie (the darker one) has had problems with itchy red ears and excessive earwax since she was a puppy, and I’m happy to say that is has almost complete cleared up since starting on your food. Harley, who has always been a little quiet and moody, is a whole new dog and waits anxiously by her bowl for dinner now. We are so glad to see their health improving and have Honest Kitchen to thank for that. Thanks so much and keep up the great work! We’re telling all our friends about your products!
Angela
Thanks Angela!!
How “Force” worked for Charlie!!!

A great story from one of our loyal customers, Danica and her Boxer Charlie.
I recently started my one and a half year old Boxer, Charlie, on your Force formula. For the past year we have been battling allergies, which has been a total nightmare. Charlie has had ear infections, vomiting issues, and constant problems with itching– he would chew his paws so much that they would constantly be red and irritated. He was miserable, and so were we, especially since our vet would only consider treating the problems with antihistamines and steroids. I refused to put an (at the time) eight month old dog on steroids, and decided I had to solve the allergy problem on my own. I started researching dog foods and found what worked for him mostly through trial and error, but he never really loved the foods he could actually eat. I think I fed him every high-end food out there, but nothing seemed to do the job. He became a very finicky eater and would rarely eat his whole daily serving, and by early spring of 2008 he had lost about 10 pounds (which is simply not right for a still growing dog, especially a Boxer).
He improved greatly on a premium grain-free fish formula, but once again, we had to dress it up for him to eat it. I took Charlie to a holistic vet who recommended The Honest Kitchen, and things have never been better! He stands next to me and whines while I get his meal ready, and his bowl is licked clean at breakfast and dinner. This is a HUGE change from a dog who would typically sniff his food and walk away. Even better, he has been steadily gaining weight, he does not throw up anymore, and even his irritated paws are clearing up. I love adding little treats like blueberries and yogurt in his food, and I am sure he loves it too.
I can’t stress enough how great it is to see a company like this within the pet food industry. We pet parents and pets alike have been needing a company like yours for a long time! Keep up the VERY great work!
DD
